Katherine Kwei A/W 2013 Preview

Kathy, the superwoman/designer/hot mama behind Katherine Kwei Handbags invited Claire Geist and I over for one of the loveliest afternoons in her SoHo studio. We got a good look and guided tour of the Katherine Kwei Autumn/Winter 2013 line.

Can you believe she’s made two babies AND runs, designs, promotes her own luxury handbag company? There are a few women whose career-life balance I look up to, and Kathy is one of them. She manages to do it all with a great attitude and style cooler than I could ever possess. Posing with Claire who’s wearing the ‘Carrie’ pictured underneath in the snake print with paint splatter.

Actually obsessed. It looks too rad. Excuse my hurried and blurry photo of it – it doesn’t do it justice, I swear. The ‘Carrie’ works well as I’m an Amex plus iPhone kind of girl. Keep it efficient with this one.

Also mesmerized by the cobalt lizard. I love cobalt so much I would name a child after it. I naturally gravitated toward the smaller accessories, clutches, and wallets – plenty were introduced this season. Who was it that said the bigger the bag, the bigger the girl? Don’t lose yourself (or your keys) toting a hamper around town.

Mood board with lots of brights, neons, and metallics.

Kathy with one her line’s updated favourites, the Donna box clutch.

More from the perfect-for-a-night-out section. Lots of the traditional Chinese knotting that you see in her signature pieces meets edgy reptilian metallic sheen.

Would happily lug my laptop to work in this two-zip tote. Simple, the skin packs all the oooh into an outfit that you’ll need without the effort.

I went home with the cobalt lizard ‘Charlotte’ shoulder bag. Wanted something that would also fit my camera without being too cumbersome, the adjustable shoulder strap was key for a shawty like me. I haven’t used any other in my own bag collection since. Thanks again Kathy for the flowers, candy, and gifts! You’re too sweet!

Everyday Arsenal

I am really lazy about getting dressed because who wants to wear any clothes ever, amirite? So since it hasn’t fully sprung into Spring in New York, I’ve opted for this cold weather uniform, varying only slightly from day to day.

Fisherman Beanie: American Apparel
Circle Scarf: American Apparel
Fisherman’s Pullover: American Apparel
Mape Petite Black Leather Jacket: Acne
PS1 Wallet: Proenza Schouler

Matte Lamé Zip Leggings: H&M
Studded Boots: Tony Bianco

This custom nameplate by my darling, Jake Andrew.
He created the first of its kind for me at a shorter length of 13 inches, with an adjustable clasp. NO GOOD cuz I ain’t any.
Get yours for $169 here or email sales@dandq.com.au.

Others identified with the D&Q nameplate: Nikki Moose from Dirty Flaws, Todd from PENDV, Nadia from The Animal Orchestra.

Perfect addition to my armour collection:
NO GOOD nameplate necklace: D&Q
Skulls Bangle: The Great Frog
Endless Love Ring: Nora Kogan
Watch: Cartier

Now let’s go win a war.

Juicebox

I love this colour, it looks like juicebox punch.
This shade is exclusive to the American Apparel kids collection, I bought a size 6 and am wearing it as a crop top.

Are you mini like me? Try browsing through the kids section at your usual retail haunts.
Youth or teen sizing may fit you just right, plus the prices and taxes are a lot less!

Ain’t no sunshine when

This is precisely how I feel about being in Los Angeles right now.

I’ve always felt like home was a person and not a place.
I feel so homesick. Homeless, rather, more than ever.

I want to say that I’m trapped, here, in my transience.
I want to say many more things, to explain. I don’t have the wherewithal.

Bianca wrote me this morning. The subject was simply “<3". Another reminder that everyone who cares for me lives in New York, or Berlin, or Toronto. A few days ago, her company, Small Girls PR, had sent me a pair of Tortoise & Blonde sunglasses.

They arrived precisely on a day when I had been crying steadily. I needed these glasses. Thank you.

She suggested that I elaborate on the motto inscribed in the case “ONE Today. ANOTHER Tomorrow.” I think I’m supposed to write about babes and adventures and how life goes on. How I could have one of each of the aforementioned today, and another tomorrow.

But I can’t. I haven’t decided what it is I could say that would make things better or whether they’d be worse.
I’m afraid that I may have already said enough of the wrong things, rendering irreparable.
I’ll let my new Sunset shades tell you how I feel –

black and blue.

For now, I just want to take each day as it comes. One today, another tomorrow.

I’m on instagram now. No, I haven’t switched from my beloved bb to iPhone. I just signed up on my iPod so I could stalk this superbabe on the single social media platform that he partakes in.

So follow me on instagram @JOEYNOGOOD
Some punk with no pictures took up the username for joeyng. I’ll get him, one day.

Neon Ninja

Feeling as dreary as the weather. As much as it doth rain, my nose runneth.
But always dress better than you feel!
Time to insert some bright, fun, energy via neon NINJA TURTLE SWEATER and matching NEON NAILS!

Fave new lacquer colour, American Apparel’s neon red.

Red for Raphael. My favourite ninja turtle. Even though I could only find a sweater with Donatello on it.
Nay, the sweater found me!

Diesel Summer Denim
The Powder of Diesel

Diesel showcased their feminine, make-up inspired Summer collection at their Lexington & 60th store.

Fresh colours, bleached splatters, and ‘The Jean that Kate Middleton Wore’.

Every girl knows you’ve got to try on at least a dozen pairs (if not more) before you find the right one. Pretty PR girls, fashion editors, and bloggers had loads of fun testing out fits and washes.

Susie G trendstarting the dropped-crotch pinstripe jeans for the evening.

Patrick, Diesel’s denim buyer, was on hand to help us with our picks.

Make Up Forever gave mini-makeovers to complement the denim line’s cosmetics influences.

I fell for their intense orange lippy.

Cory Kennedy brought along friends and caught up with Nylon editor, Dani Stahl.

The pair I picked, ‘Hushy’. Light, light wash with pastel water-coloured streaks. Reminds me of a rainbow sno-cone.

Approval from Dani, the event’s star stylist, rocking her distressed aqua Diesels.

New York
Fashion Film Festival
Afterparty
Le Bain at The Standard Hotel

Susie G, Marissa, and I at the afterparty for NYFFF.

Marissa looking pretty in pink paillettes.

In love with these metallic opaque tights. They’re less shimmer, more slick sheen off camera.

Susie G’s skin is like porcelain. Oh my.

Sextuple fisting?

These ladies make my nights.

I remember watching a Carmen Electra strip-tease exercise video where she emphasises the importance of a finger in the mouth. POINT TAKEN.
